In a wonderful blend of traditional circus acts with modern acrobatics, Saltimbanco filled audiences with joy in 1992 and became Cirque du Soleil’s longest running production when it ended at the end of 2012. This incredible period of spectacular success over three different decades included 6,000 performances in tents and stadiums for 14 million spectators in 140 cities around the globe.
Deep in a forest at the top of a volcano there is an extraordinary world where everything is possible: Varekai. A lonely young man falls from the sky and the story begins. At the end of the days, in this place where everything is possible, begins an inspired enchantment of life rediscovered.
Zarkana is an animated journey through an abandoned theater, where an extraordinary circus comes back to life. Filled with a motley array of incomparable characters and acrobats, Zarkana is a visual vortex in a universe of twisted acrobatic fantasy, where, little by little, chaos and madness give way to true celebration.

Gauthier and Ste-Croix ran a youth hostel for performing artists named Le Balcon Vert at the time. In the summer of 1979, Ste-Croix had been developing the idea of turning the Balcon Vert, and the talented artists who lived there, into an organized performing troupe. As part of a publicity stunt to convince the Quebec government to help finance his production, Ste-Croix walked the 56 miles (90 km) from Baie-Saint-Paul to Quebec on stilts. The ploy worked, giving the three men the money to create Les Echassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul. Employing many of the people who would later form Cirque du Soleil, Les Echassiers toured Quebec during the summer of 1980.
After performing in Montreal, Sherbrooke and Quebéc with Le Grand Tour, Cirque leaves its home province to perform for the first time in Ontario. Also performing in Ottawa, Toronto and the Niagara Falls region, the show is simply called Cirque du Soleil.
