“Howard Phillips Lovecraft (Providence (Rhode Island), 20 augustus 1890 – aldaar, 15 maart 1937) was een Amerikaanse fantasy- en horrorschrijver. Hij staat erom bekend dat hij zijn horrorverhalen in een sciencefictionachtig kader plaatste. Lovecraft was, during his time there, a very different writer. Vrijwel al zijn verhalen werden gepubliceerd in pulpbladen als Weird Tales. Tijdens zijn leven werd hij niet veel gelezen, maar zijn werk bleek zeer invloedrijk bij latere schrijvers en fans van horrorverhalen. Onder anderen Stephen King, Bentley Little, Joe R. Lansdale, Alan Moore, Junji Ito, F. Paul Wilson, Brian Lumley en Neil Gaiman noemden Lovecrafts werk een van hun primaire inspiratiebronnen.

El color fuera del espacio es una película estadounidense de ciencia ficción y terror lovecraftiano de 2019[8] dirigida y coescrita por Richard Stanley, basada en el relato corto “El color fuera del espacio” de H. P. Lovecraft. Está protagonizada por Nicolas Cage, Joely Richardson, Elliot Knight, Madeleine Arthur, Q’orianka Kilcher y Tommy Chong. Es el único largometraje de Stanley desde su despido de La isla del Dr. Moreau (1996)[9]. Según Stanley, es la primera película de una trilogía de adaptaciones de Lovecraft, que espera continuar con una adaptación de “El horror de Dunwich”[10].
Tras la mastectomía de su esposa Theresa, Nathan Gardner traslada a su familia, incluidos los niños Lavinia, Benny y Jack, a la granja de su difunto padre.
