A Red Dead Redemption 2 player has shared his own vintage-style trailer, in which he pays homage to the acclaimed 2018 title by combining gameplay and cinematic snippets to create a classic-looking teaser in the style of legendary filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and Sergio Leone. The action-adventure game has been the subject of fan-made video projects in the past, such as a five-part Red Dead Redemption 2 nature documentary uploaded earlier this summer.

Rob Long, a member of Smasher, worked for several hours to imagine what a Red Dead Redemption movie would look like. To do so he took footage from Brimstone a 2016 thriller featuring Kit Harrington to reinterpret it as footage for a Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer.

“Red Dead Redemption 2 is a video game. The visuals, story and dialogue are good, so you often have to remind yourself that it is when you go through its huge open world and experience its western story,” Long mentioned. “With a story this solid and similar to the real world, it’s natural (at least to me) to imagine it becoming a movie with real actors.”

What we’re referring to is that, in 2016, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, let it be known that it was unlikely that they were going to bring their franchises to the big screen. Mind you, he didn’t shut down the possibility entirely either.

“We have to be very selective in licensing movies, because the economic opportunity is limited and the creative risk is significant. Put another way, if a bad movie gets made it could tie up our intellectual property and if a good movie gets made, the value of those licensing fees is not that huge. So we have to be very, very selective,” Zelnick explained in an interview with GameIndustry.biz.
