The great gig in the sky

the great gig in the sky 1988

“The Great Gig in the Sky” is the fifth song on the album The Dark Side of the Moon, by the British band Pink Floyd, released in 1973. It was composed by keyboardist Richard Wright. It is world-renowned for Clare Torry’s vocal performance.

It was originally called “The Mortality Sequence”, “The Religion Song” and “Ecclesiastes” (this name is prior to the inclusion in the album, and is due to the fact that during the live performances, verses from the book of Ecclesiastes, from the Bible, were read).

When Pínk Floyd separated from Roger Waters, released his album A Momentary Lapse of Reason and made his tour, for this song, Gilmour hired Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and his sister Lorelei. And to use the video of him standing in the famous projector circle, Gilmour was credited with the 1973 video. Already for 1994 when Pink Floyd released their album The Division Bell and made their tour of the same album, they created another video (Screen Film) of the same thing and hired again the singer who participated in the tour of A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Durga McBroom, Sam Brown and Claudia Fontaine.
