The Rocky Horror Picture Show is an English-American film directed in 1975 by Jim Sharman and distributed by Warner Bros. It is based on the musical The Rocky Horror Show, by Richard O’Brien. It is about a newly engaged couple who, after a breakdown in their car, are forced to spend the night in the isolated mansion of Doctor Frank-N-Furter, who holds a convention of Transylvanians on the occasion of the creation of his creature, Rocky Horror, a perfect man whose “half” brain belongs to a juvenile delinquent.

The film is itself a rock musical that both honors and satirizes science fiction films, particularly the black-and-white RKO productions. Since its release it quickly became a cult film and is still shown in theaters around the world where theme parties and performances are staged around the film.

In 2005 The Rocky Horror Picture Show was deemed “culturally, historically and aesthetically significant” by the U.S. Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.[6]

The film soon became a cult object (due to its sexual content, classified for adults only) and went down in history being still shown in cinemas where real parties are held around the film.
